Propolis based remedies

There's Science
in our Naturals

Decades of research and millions of years of evolution have gone into our propolis remedies.

We love bees and we're passionate about bee ecology and products from the hive. We work exclusively with trusted Manitoban beekeepers to deliver the highest quality natural health products containing our unique bee propolis extracts.

Dr. Sosnowski's propolis is collected entirely sustainably and refined in our own propolis refinery in Winnipeg.

Propolis - An antimicrobial powerhouse

Propolis is an antimicrobial substance produced by honeybees which they make by collecting a cocktail of resins from plants and trees. Propolis has been described as the plant world’s natural antibiotic. Bees use this resinous mixture to create a protective envelope around their hive, to keep it sterile and protect the colony from disease.

The first bees are estimated to have evolved around 120 million years ago and despite not having an internal immune system, bees have become one of the most efficient creatures on earth at keeping their colonies free from disease. They have probably been producing propolis since their early existence, so they’ve had a good while to perfect the production of this truly amazing substance.

Dr. Sosnowski MSc, PhD - The scientific brains behind our propolis

Dr. Sosnowski was a polish scientist who dedicated several decades of his life to researching bee propolis. He was an early pioneer of natural medicines and well ahead of his time. In fact it’s only relatively recently that some of the natural remedies Sosnowski developed decades ago have begun to be accepted as being highly effective and credible alternatives to mainstream medicine.

A highly effective natural preservative

During his early research, Dr. Sosnowski recognised that bees were using propolis to keep themselves and their colonies healthy. He was convinced that propolis would have widespread benefits for humans and much of his research was centred around this theory. His research work spanned a range of medications from sore throat sprays to cold sore treatments.

A doube PhD in pharmacology and biochemistry, Dr Sosnowski proved that his propolis was a highly effective natural preservative in medications, which could be used as an alternative to potentially harmful chemical based preservatives containing known parabens. This highly refined extract is still used today as a natural preservative in medical devices and some cosmetics.

He also carried out and collaborated on important research into the effects of his extracts on certain viruses, MRSA and bacterial infections and was instrumental in several highly successful clinical trials involving his propolis extracts. These trials validated his research studies and led to the development of groundbreaking new drug products.

Sadly Dr. Sosnowski passed away in 2014 but we continue his incredible work today.

A unique range of propolis extracts

Today we produce several grades of propolis and this is used as a natural alternative to potentially harmful parabens as a preservative in cosmetics, OTC drugs and in medical devices.

We also produce a food grade propolis for use in supplements and nutraceuticals.

However, our highest grade of propolis is used in Natural Health Products and is registered in territories such as Canada and Australia where it is regulated as a drug in certain medications.

100% originated and refined in Manitoba, Canada

Our range of extracts are all purified in our own Propolis Refinery located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada - where everything is carried out to cGMP standards. All our propolis is fully traceable and documented back to source and we only partner with trusted beekeepers who collect in a sustainable way without harming their bee colonies. Our beekeeping partners are all fiercely protective for the wellbeing of bees. Each batch we produce is rigorously tested by an independent laboratory to screen for pesticides, heavy metals and any potentially harmful parabens.
